On May 25, following progress in ironmaking, rolling, and maintenance projects, the company’s relocation and transformation initiative reached another milestone: the successful first hoisting of steel structures for its steelmaking plant, marking a new peak in the dynamic construction of the new Xingtai Steel.
Amid an atmosphere of high spirits and thunderous applause at the construction site, Chairman Zhang Yuming issued the order to commence the hoisting operation. Under the watchful eyes of Vice Presidents Ma Baoliang and Han Qinglian, along with 450 workers from eight construction teams, a towering crane lifted the 30.6-meter steel structure into place, smoothly lowering it into the foundation socket.
As a key project in Hebei Province’s 14th Five-Year Plan to advance modern manufacturing, the Xingtai Steel relocation and transformation initiative spans 3,217 acres (approx. 1,302 hectares) and comprises three major sections: ironmaking, steelmaking, and rolling. Upon completion, it will boast an annual production capacity of: 1.65 million tons of iron, 2.25 million tons of crude steel and 2.13 million tons of finished steel products.
The project’s adoption of HIsmelt smelting reduction technology brings revolutionary advantages over traditional methods in environmental protection, automation, cost efficiency, and product quality: Eliminates highly polluting, energy-intensive processes like sintering and coking in conventional long-route steelmaking. Enables direct smelting using ore and coal powder. Supplies downstream manufacturers with ultra-low-phosphorus hot metal of superior quality. Dramatically reduces pollutant emissions. This breakthrough process is set to significantly propel Xingtai Steel’s premium special steel strategy and future growth.
